Megan entered the dog sports universe 16+ years ago, first competing in agility with Cairn terriers Miles & Ella. While Ella was Megan's first Barn Hunt dog, it was rescue Cairn Lucy who got the family into Urban Ratting due to its accessibility for senior dogs. Her current teammates, Idina & Caleb, teach her new things every day: about wellness, behavior, and life in general (and of course about rat hunting)! She is especially excited about introducing new teams to the joys of hunting rats and supporting experienced teams to trial successfully…and above all to thoroughly enjoy the learning journey together.
Megan is a Certified Canine Sports Training Professional and Certified Canine Training & Behavior Specialist with the Animal Behavior Institute. She is a judge for Barn Hunt, Happy Ratters and NASDA.
Beyond the canine world, Megan previously served as an executive, consultant, coach, and trainer for nonprofit organizations, also holding certificates in Adult Education and Grief Support. She lives in Chicago and enjoys baking, singing, and hiking (esp. with the terrierists)!
Megan started City Sniffers Dog Sports Training in January 2023, and subsequently founded the City Sniffers Rat Hunt Club. The club hosted its first Happy Ratters trial in August 2023 and first Barn Hunt trial in November 2023. Many exciting events are planned for 2025 and beyond in both the Chicago area and Central Illinois - we hope you’ll join us!

Megan is amazing! My dogs & I love barn hunt & urban ratting. I have whippets which are sighthounds - meaning they chase prey by sight, but they also know how to use their noses. Because my dogs are not a typical breed that would hunt rats their indication when they have found the rat is very subtle. Megan has really helped me learn how to read my dogs better. I’m very grateful to her for bringing this sport to my area and giving me something fun to do with my older girls who no longer do the high impact & running dog sports I typically do.
Megan is a fabulous instructor. My miniature schnauzer and I went to a workshop and got hooked on the sport. It's fun to watch the dog use his nose and his brain to figure out how to get around the obstacles on the course. Megan gave me tips on how to 'read' my dog's body language, and how to help him build confidence in hunting and in waiting his turn around other dogs. He loves to search!
