HAPPY RATTERS TRIAL FAQs

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Entries for City Sniffers trials are accepted online only on a first come/first served basis. Credit card payment is required at the time of submission to process your entry. This process is the same for early, late, and day of show entries. We do not accept cash or check payment regardless of the timing of the entry.

You can always find online entry links in one of several ways:

1) Visit our Happy Ratters Trials webpage (fastest/easiest method)

2) Search the Upcoming Events list on Secreterrier.com

3) Find it in the Description text on the Facebook Event

Yes, human spectators are always welcome, however, your dog should stay home unless entered in the trial.

Most often we DO take late entries for City Sniffers trials - but if a particular day is full the event info on the Happy Ratters Trials webpage will note that fact.

Late/DoS entries must be submitted online via Secreterrier. Please submit your entry before traveling to the trial location to ensure that you have a spot...

As long as Secreterrier is allowing the entry you have a spot in the trial! If a particular day/ring is full Secreterrier will note that you are being Wait Listed (and your Wait List position) before you checkout. At that point you can decide whether or not to proceed with that entry.

Yes, but this process is fast/easy! Just follow the instructions on the Happy Ratters website and your number will be assigned immediately and viewable in your Secreterrier account. Dog registration is a one-time lifetime fee of $22 per dog, which is payable to the Happy Ratters organization through Secreterrier.

Standard Classes: Brand new teams must enter the Ratter level (1 rat) for Standard classes. However, dogs with a Barn Hunt Association Novice (RATN) title or higher may begin trialing at the Happy Ratter level (2 rats), and dogs with a Barn Hunt Association Open (RATO) title or higher may begin trialing at the Expert level (3 rats). Starting at a higher level is entirely optional: they may also start at a lower level. Note: The lower level titles are required for some Happy Ratters Versatility Tiles.

Games Classes: There is no “grandfathering” for Games Classes – all dogs must start at Level 1 in each game and work their way up. Each game is titled separately.

Every class/level you see on a trial entry form will have one option with an added "M" after the name, and one option without it. The "M" stands for Metallic.

Once a dog earns a title in a specific class/level, they can choose to either move UP to the next level, or move OVER to the Metallic class to stay at the same level.

For games without levels (Earn A Rat, Rat Race, Infestation), once the first 300-point title is earned the dog is then Metallic for life in that game.

KEY POINT TO REMEMBER: Only enter the M (Metallic) class if the dog has already earned the title in that class/level.

The answer to this question can vary greatly between different dog/handler teams. The best thing to do is to discuss this with your trainer. Need a Happy Ratters training home? Check out our training options for any of our locations:

City Sniffers trials typically start at 8:00 or 8:30 AM each day, with a general briefing 15 minutes prior. Always check your Trial Premium & Final Confirmation documents to verify start times! These documents will also include a chart that specifies which classes are being played which days, and whether they are in the AM Set (Trial 1) or PM Set (Trial 2).

All classes in a Set (i.e., all Trial 1 classes or all Trial 2 classes) will be run back to back, meaning that you'll only have one spot in the running order. You will run any classes you've entered in that Trial one right after the other, moving from ring to ring.

Aside from the start time for the day, Barn Hunt & Happy Ratters trials do not provide exact trial/class start times because of the fluid nature of these events; rather, we use the final number of runs in each class to estimate times. Class counts are provided to all competitors in the Final Confirmation, but please keep in mind there are no guarantees, and the event may run faster/slower than anticipated due to late entries, withdrawals, move-ups, etc.

That being said, there is a bit of predictability in that our Happy Ratters trials are split into Trial 1, which runs in the AM, and Trial 2, which runs after a 30-45 minute lunch break. Depending on run counts and which classes are included on a given day, however, the lunch break could start as early as 11:00 AM or as late as 1:00 PM.

IMPORTANT: Always double check your Trial Premium and Final Confirmation documents to confirm start times and class orders. Trial schedules vary between venues, and even the same venue may change things up from time to time!
